Chronic pancreatitis
The most common cause of chronic pancreatitis is chronic alcohol abuse. It can also develop for unclear reasons (idiopathic chronic pancreatitis). Rare causes are: metabolic disorders – hyperlipidemia, hypercalcemia in hyperparathyroidism, structural abnormalities.
Chronic pancreatitis is divided into the following forms:
- Chronic calcifying pancreatitis - characterized by fibrosis, formation of protein plugs in the ducts and acini of the gland and calculi;
- Chronic obstructive pancreatitis - there are changes in the structure of the gland, expansion and deformation of the ducts, atrophy and gradual replacement of the glandular parenchyma with fibrous tissue.
