The textbook contains two main parts. In the first part - basic theoretical statements of general medicine - topics related to the reform of the health care system of Bulgaria, the algorithm of general medicine, stages and tasks of the consultation in the general medical practice, specific approaches in GP work, biopsychosocial approach, psychological approach in general practice, decision-making in general medical practice, patient's rights and others.
The second part – specific problems in general practice – focuses on the GP's work with the patient's family, an introduction to communication skills in general medical practice, communicating bad news, the general practitioner's work with terminally ill and difficult patients, models of doctor-patient relationship and others.
The textbook has been adapted to European standards for medical education and its greatest quality is its emphasis on Bulgarian general medical practice.
