Nosocomial infections
Nearly 18,000 nosocomial infections were registered in our country in 2015. This is indicated by the data of the Regional Health Inspections, cited by the Center for the Protection of Rights in Health Care. The most are those in the Gabrovo region, and in Pernishko they did not report any. However, according to experts, not all infections related to medical care are registered, which is why the percentage in Bulgaria is so low.
The number of reported VBI in our country and in other years is similar, according to the data of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases. About 2 million patients pass through the country's hospitals annually. Studies show that in developed countries, the incidence of these infections is between 3 and 10 percent. Relative to the hospitalizations in Bulgaria, this would mean between 60,000 and 200,000 people. According to the specialists, this means that either not all VBIs are registered in our country or we are the world record holder for the small number of them.
