PHARMACOTHERAPEUTIC DIRECTORY
In about 95% of cases, the diagnosis, prevention and therapy of diseases, as well as planned reproduction, are related to the use of drugs. That is exactly why it is extremely important for medical theory and practice that the rapidly growing scientific facts in the field of pharmacology and pharmacotherapy are periodically updated, analyzed and systematized. Unlike medical periodicals, university textbooks, and monographic works, modern reference editions present this much-needed information in a summarized, synthesized, and easily understood manner.
The proposed directory contains over 5500 medicinal products, a significant number homeopathic products, phytoproducts, food and other biologically active additives. It consists of 20 sections containing 180 chapters. Medicines are systematized rationally according to the anatomic-therapeutic-chemical classification of the WHO and the main medical specialties. Considerable attention is devoted to products for the treatment of socially significant diseases. Due to the limited volume of the book, the emphasis is mainly on the indications, dosage regimes (including for children and PNV) and contraindications (or side effects) of the drugs. Appropriate abbreviations are used, with which the reader should become thoroughly familiar. For clarity, separate repetitions and references have been made in some places (especially if a drug has more than one mechanism of action and/or indication).
The handbook was developed by pharmacologists and clinicians with extensive teaching and clinical experience based on the database of the IAP, EMA, FDA and a thorough literature reference from our and foreign literature sources. In a sense, it is a significantly abridged to about 35-37% version of the forthcoming eighth majorly revised edition of the PHARMACOTHERAPY REFERRAL (the first edition of which was published way back in 1983). A large number of drugs for which there are data in the scientific literature are given the risk category for pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding), presented in a summarized form-
-Pregnancy Risk Category (PRC)
A: controlled studies exclude teratogenic risk
C: no evidence of teratogenicity in humans
C: teratogenicity has been demonstrated only in experimental animals
D: Teratogenicity has been demonstrated in animals and humans
X: the drug is absolutely contraindicated
Lactation Risk Category (LRC)
L1: completely safe drug
L2: safe drug
L3: moderately safe drug
L4: risky drug
L5: the drug is absolutely contraindicated
