The publication emphasizes the justification of the status of "Medical pedagogy" as a relatively independent direction in the system of pedagogical sciences and the outline of the normative conditioning of higher medical education. Three modern approaches to the learning process in the conditions of the higher medical school are examined in detail: person-oriented, problem-based, and competence-based, and their importance in terms of the formation and development of the health specialist is highlighted. The structural and substantive features of the training process in the higher medical school are revealed in depth and detail, with special attention being paid to goal setting, educational content, methods, principles and forms of training, control and evaluation. The problem of the nature, types, forms and functions of students' independent work is clarified in detail. Knowledge is provided about the essence, types and possibilities of applying various algorithms in the education of students from the professional direction "Health care". Special attention is paid to clarifying the pedagogical interaction in the learning process between teacher and student in connection with the formation of the latter as a subject. A suitable place is devoted to the problem of the formation of the moral culture and clinical thinking of the health specialist.
