The specialty otorhinolaryngology treats diseases of the nose and paranasal cavities, of the swallow, of the oral cavity, of the salivary glands glands, larynx, esophagus, trachea and ears. Diseases of the sensory organs located in the mentioned organs are also treated by otorhinolaryngologists. During their daily practice, general practitioners and dentists very often encounter otorhinolaryngological diseases. It is for this reason that they must necessarily be able to treat them, and the knowledge of emergency interventions is of particular importance: stopping bleeding from the nose, injuries of the ENT organs, acute laryngeal dyspnea, etc.
This textbook deals mainly with the knowledge that the general practitioner must know. Diseases that are less common in general practice are not considered in detail. The organs that belong to otorhinolaryngology serve for breathing, speech formation, nutrition, hearing, balance, smell and taste. The mentioned organs are closely interconnected, and the disease easily passes from one organ to another.
