SURGICAL TREATMENT OF PROSTATE CARCINOMA
The present monograph is devoted to surgical methods for the treatment of prostate carcinoma. It examines in detail the anatomy of the structures surrounding the prostate, the preservation of which is important to achieve optimal functional results. All methods used for diagnosis and preoperative prognosis of the disease are described. The operative technique of open retropubic and perineal radical prostatectomy and laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, which has become particularly popular in the last decade, is presented. The most common ones are described complications, paying special attention to urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction specific to these operations. The oncological results of radical prostatectomy performed in the different risk groups are analyzed. A special section is devoted to robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, which is increasingly entering routine urological practice. The monograph also presents the adjuvant methods of treatment – hormone and radiotherapy, applied to high-risk patients. In addition to palliative treatment methods, such as: TURP, laser ablation, bilateral orchiectomy, etc., the monograph also examines some modern alternative methods of radical treatment and focal therapy, such as: brachytherapy, cryotherapy and HIFU. The bibliography includes over 2000 sources, mostly from the last 10 years.
The author's aim is to collect in one reading everything related to the modern surgical treatment of prostate carcinoma. The book is intended for a wide readership of inquisitive patients, students, interns, general practitioners and medical specialists.
