Pharmacology Illustrated
PREFACE
This illustrated textbook of pharmacology is for medical, dental and pharmacy students, medical students, postgraduates, post-doctoral fellows, doctors and specialists. For the first time, we are publishing a textbook that is rich in diagrams and figures and with a thesis text on sections of pharmacology and education programs in our country. I dedicated the textbook to my teacher Prof. Dr. Dimitar Paskov, who was the head of the Department of Pharmacology in Sofia for many years, developed experimental pharmacology in our country, created dozens of medicinal products. The Bulgarian drug Nivalin (generic name galantamine) developed by Prof. Paskov and his team is eternal, it saved and saves millions of people in the world, and Sopharma has been producing it for many decades. Tribute to the memory of the teacher Prof. Dr. D. Paskov.
What's new in the textbook? In addition to many schemes and figures that facilitate the preparation of students in pharmacology and provide a basis for logical memorization of knowledge in this medical discipline, in each section of the textbook there are questions that are both for classroom and non-auditory training on the subject. In some places, there are catchy and suggestive figures for each question, which are a basis for easier remembering of details on the topic. With the help of the questions and figures for each section, a more effective seminar discussion between students and student-teachers is expected. Some of the questions focus on the pharmacotherapeutic application of drugs with patient examples, which also has a practical medical role. Prescription tasks for each topic also facilitate accurate memorization of leading drug names. Taken together, these facts define what is new and useful in the illustrated textbook.
The illustrated textbook does not claim to present all the details reflected in the last pharmacology textbook published in 2013 under our editorship. This textbook presents the most important, basic facts and latest data on the topics of pharmacology. There are novelties presented to many of the sections of the textbook.
I wrote the textbook with love for medicine and medical education, with respect for students and teachers. Based on my 43 years of experience as an academic teacher, I have judged that this type of illustrated textbook is important for teaching students, specialists and doctoral students. I believe that his knowledge will help in the logical and analytical study of pharmacology and for the discussion of seminars.
