Clinical Immunology - Case Studies
The book is an "immunological view" on clinical cases from the practice of the Clinical Clinic immunology with the stem cell bank of the "Alexandrovska" UMBAL and the Clinical Immunology Laboratory of the UMBAL "St. Ivan Rilski", the two structures that form the Department of Clinical Immunology of the Faculty of Medicine, Medical University - Sofia.
Illnesses in real patients are examined, where the main point in the pathogenesis are disorders in the functioning of the immune system - congenital and acquired immune deficiencies, autoimmune diseases, immunological phenomena related to tumor development.
Selected clinical cases illustrate important aspects of the immune mechanisms responsible for disease development, explain some of the immunological problems commonly seen in the clinic, and show how characterizing the pathophysiology of genetically determined immune diseases can lead to personalized therapy.
The description of the clinical cases was made in close communication with pediatricians, rheumatologists, gastroenterologists, cardiologists, geneticists, surgeons from the hospitals "Alexandrovska" UMBAL - Sofia, UMBAL "St. Ivan Rilski" - Sofia, National Cardiology Hospital - Sofia, UMBAL "St. George" - Plovdiv, UMBALSM "N. I. Pirogov" - Sofia, MBAL "St. Ivan Rilski" - Razgrad, and Nôpital Européen Georges Pompidou - Paris, France.
The book is intended for medical students, interns and practicing physicians.
