Medical acronyms, abbreviations and symbols from Bulgarian, Russian, Latin, English and German
Acronyms, abbreviations and symbols are a special but indispensable part of the terminology of medical science and practice. Their use has been steadily increasing in recent years. Significantly faster, however, their number increases, as the successful development of each medical field inevitably leads to the creation of more and more new words and complex word combinations, together with their abbreviated terminological forms. The content of the dictionary covers more than 10,000 abbreviated terms, the vast majority of which are Latin acronyms. Their distribution is according to the accepted international standard - by letters and in alphabetical order, for each letter and for each term. The book contains three separate parts – terms in Cyrillic, Latin and other symbols. In Part I, the available acronyms and abbreviations in Cyrillic, mainly from the Bulgarian language, as well as some different from them - in the Russian language (Rus) are collected. Part II contains Latin acronyms, abbreviations and symbols derived from Latin (Lat), English (En) and German (De). For each of them, their meaning is given with a text in Bulgarian, the language of their origin and the original text are indicated. For terms with internationally accepted usage this is marked accordingly (Int), as e.g. for all chemical elements, units of measurement and a number of other terms. In part III, symbols of other origins are selected - graphic, numerical, Greek letters, mathematical characters.
