The tuberculosis pandemic at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century marked new dimensions. If until 25-30 years ago there was a trend towards a permanent decrease in the incidence, it is currently reported that 1/3 of the world's population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex. . According to the latest data from the World Health Organization (2004), in the next 20 years it is expected that nearly 1 billion people will be infected and approximately 35 million of them will die. The reasons are mainly in the increased incidence of AIDS; migration processes and the high percentage of organ transplants.
Although Urogenital Tuberculosis (UTT) does not currently show a trend towards an increase in morbidity, it is expected to increase in the near future due to the specificity of the inflammatory process. At the same time, cases of advanced forms of the disease are increasing, which in a high percentage leads to organ loss and disability. This provokes a search for more appropriate methods for early diagnosis and more effective treatment schemes and techniques.
The present work reflects the author's 25-year experience, evaluating the introduced new and updating the existing diagnostic methods. An essential section of the monograph is the new and modified surgical techniques of organ-preserving reconstructive operations implemented in urological practice.
The exhibition is in line with the most modern achievements of medical science and practice, as evidenced by the large number of literary sources.
The monograph comes after more than 40 years since the publication of the fundamental works of S. Lambrev, T. Andreev (1961) and Iv. Viktorov (1962) in the field of urophthisia and set himself the lofty goal of developing and continuing the traditions in this direction.
The book is intended not only for specialist urologists, but also for a wider range of medical specialties (nephrologists, phthisiologists, general practitioners, etc.).
