Gastroenterology together with hepatology belongs to the largest divisions of internal diseases. The participation of many organs, which are interconnected in their function, on the one hand, as well as their multifaceted involvement by various disease processes, on the other hand, makes it difficult to structure textbooks that present their pathology in a complex manner.
The rapid development of areas such as genetics and molecular biology, the accumulation and reevaluation of knowledge about the real value and place of individual diagnostic methods, as well as methods of modern treatment of gastroenterological diseases, necessitated the writing of this textbook.
The textbook was structured in two parts - Gastroenterology and Hepatology, due to the large volume and specificity of knowledge in these two communities. In the first volume - "Gastroenterology", for the first time in our country an attempt was made, along with the systematic exposition of the material on disease entities, to include large sections on clinical symptoms, basic and clinical syndromes, modern diagnostic methods, as well as general principles of therapy in gastroenterological diseases. For the first time, the main diseases of the pancreas are also presented in the textbook.
We believe that this structure of the book will facilitate its users in a more complete and systematic absorption of the material. We will be grateful for all comments and feedback on the textbook.
