The specialty otorhinolaryngology treats diseases of the nose and paranasal cavities, the pharynx, the oral cavity, the salivary glands glands, larynx, esophagus, trachea and ears. Diseases of the sensory organs located in the mentioned organs are also treated by otolaryngologists. During their daily practice, general practitioners and dentists very often encounter otolaryngological diseases. That is why they must be able to treat them, and knowledge of emergency interventions is of particular importance: stopping nosebleeds, injuries to the ENT organs, acute laryngeal dyspnea, etc.

This textbook deals mainly with the knowledge that a general practitioner must necessarily know. Diseases that are less common in general practice are not considered in detail. The organs that belong to otorhinolaryngology serve for breathing, speech formation, nutrition, hearing, balance, smell and taste. The mentioned organs are closely interconnected, as the disease easily passes from organ to organ. For example: diseases of the epipharynx very often cause ear diseases, diseases of the paranasal cavities can cause inflammation of the larynx and trachea, etc. Due to the hidden location of the ears, nose and throat, they are examined only with special instruments and with special lighting…
