PHARMACOTHERAPEUTIC REFERENCE
In about 95% of the cases, the diagnosis, prevention and therapy of diseases, as well as planned reproduction, are related to the use of drugs. That is why it is extremely important for medical theory and practice that the avalanche-growing scientific facts in the field of pharmacology and pharmacotherapy are periodically updated, analyzed and systematized. Unlike the medical periodical press, university textbooks and monographic works, modern reference editions present this much-needed information in a summarized, synthesized and easily understandable manner.
The proposed guide contains over 5500 medicinal products, a significant number homeopathic products, phytoproducts, nutritional and other biologically active supplements. It consists of 20 sections, containing 180 chapters. The drugs are systematized rationally according to the WHO anatomical-therapeutic-chemical classification and the main medical specialties. Considerable attention is paid to products for the treatment of socially significant diseases. Due to the limited volume of the book, the emphasis is mainly on the indications, dosage regimens (including in children and PNV) and contraindications (or adverse reactions) of the drugs. Appropriate abbreviations are used, which the reader should be well acquainted with. For greater clarity, separate repetitions and references have been made in some places (especially if a given drug has more than one mechanism of action and/or indication).
The handbook was developed by pharmacologists and clinicians with extensive teaching and clinical experience based on the database of the IAP, EMA, FDA and an in-depth literature review from our and foreign literary sources. In a sense, it represents a significantly shortened to about 35-37% version of the upcoming eighth major revised edition of the PHARMACOTHERAPY HANDBOOK (whose first edition was published back in 1983). A large number of drugs for which there is data in the scientific literature are given the risk category for pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding), presented in a summarized form-
-Pregnancy Risk Category (PRC)
A: controlled studies exclude a teratogenic risk
C: no evidence of teratogenicity in humans
C: teratogenicity has been demonstrated only in experimental animals
D: teratogenicity has been proven in animals and humans
X: the drug is absolutely contraindicated
Lactation Risk Category (LRC)
L1: completely safe drug
L2: safe medicine
L3: moderately safe drug
L4: risky drug
L5: the drug is absolutely contraindicated
