A separate chapter also discusses occupational therapy for various mental illnesses – for example, in the acute phase of mental disorders, in severe and chronic mental illnesses, in schizophrenic disorders, in affective disorders and others.

Special attention is paid to engaging clients in productive activities, such as paid work or community service and fulfilling basic life roles. The basic principles of working in a multidisciplinary team and the role of the occupational therapist in it are clarified. Discussion questions, case studies and independent work tasks are included in each topic to actively engage students in the learning process. Occupational therapy assessment tools in the field of mental health are presented in the appendix.

The tool can be used not only by students, but also by practicing occupational therapists, as well as other specialists working with individuals with psychosocial disabilities.
