The textbook Acute Poisonings: Texts and Tests for Students and General Practitioners, aimed at enriching the knowledge of third-year medical students and medical specialists in health care - bachelors, trained at the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Plovdiv, was met with interest and was quickly sold out. This necessitated its re-issue after a critical assessment of the needs for information, reassessment of the data, structure and updating of the information. The present textbook "Propaedeutics of Clinical Toxicology" includes basic knowledge about poisons and their clinical manifestation in case of overdose - poisoning.
The following have been synthetically examined:
Basic concepts of toxicology
Basic processes of toxicokinetics, toxicodynamics and toxic effects of exogenous poisons-xenobiotics
Current epidemiology of poisonings in the Plovdiv region
Basic behavioral algorithm of the physician in acute poisoning in pre-hospital and inpatient medical care
The problem of "toxicological diagnosis, content, formulation, specificity"
The most common acute poisonings according to their frequency in our country and the behavioral patterns in their diagnosis and treatment
Model cases of types of acute poisoning
The manual includes medical toxicological diagnoses formulated in Latin, real medical cases as illustrations of certain toxicological disease patterns.
The material is illustrated with tables, diagrams and photographs of toxicological health changes.
In essence, the material satisfies the teaching of this specific subject for third-year medical students, who at the same time study Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine and Propaedeutics of Surgical Alestries. Thus, the knowledge from these disciplines is complemented and developed in a targeted manner.
This textbook can also serve as a reference for practicing physicians interested in the problems, approach to, and treatment of acute exogenous poisonings.
It is obvious that the present tool suffers from incompleteness and has imperfections.
