In recent years, there has been a trend towards an increase in the number of patients with CKD both in our country and abroad. The number of patients who need hemodialysis treatment or kidney transplantation is increasing every year. On the other hand, progress in the earlier diagnosis and adequate treatment of kidney diseases makes it possible to promptly detect cases with impaired kidney function and, with appropriate dietary regimen, use and preserve kidney reserves for a significant period of time.
Unfortunately, until now, detailed diets with precisely calculated protein and caloric intake, which are suitable for patients with CKD, have not been offered in our country. On the other hand, it should be taken into account that many of these patients have difficulty using expensive products and preparing the menu. For this reason, we have included some practical measures and instructions for preparing the indicated dishes in the appendices.
In many patients with CKD, it is necessary to continue the treatment started with normal kidney function or to include new drugs. With a number of medications, it is necessary to avoid their use or adjust the dosage in patients with CKD. For this reason, we have briefly reflected data on some commonly used medicinal products according to the benefit/economic expediency ratio.
