PREFACE
Parasites play a role in the etiology of many diseases (gastroenterocolitis, allergies, neuroses, anemia, unclear fibrillar conditions, etc.).
More than 15 types of local parasitic diseases of humans have been described in Bulgaria. Some of which are widespread and have an important medico-social and economic impact (trichomoniasis, giardiasis), toxoplasmosis, pneumocystosis, echinococcosis, trichinosis, ascariasis, toxocarosis, enterobiosis, taeniarhynchosis, etc.). The importance of indicator parasitosis in AIDS patients is growing extremely. Including. (pneumocystosis, toxoplasmosis, cryptosporidiosis, leishmaniasis, blastocystosis, cyclosporiasis, microsporidiosis and others).
Along with local parasitoses, more than 25 types of tropical parasitic diseases from Africa, Asia and Latin America are imported into our country every year. For some of them, there are no conditions for local distribution in our country. Therefore, they are the object of clinical-diagnostic and therapeutic interest (paragonimosis, fasciolopsidosis, schistosomiasis, etc.).
Another part of the imported parasites represent a serious epidemiological danger for our country. because they can have a local endemic spread (malaria, amoebiasis, hookworms, strongyloidiasis, lymphatic filariasis, leishmaniasis, etc.).
The presented textbook-guide is intended for the students of medicine of the 6th year, taught according to the cyclic system and for the 5th year, studying medical parasitology with tropical diseases.
- Data on general and special medical parasitology include above all modern knowledge about etiology. Epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinic with complications, diagnosisand differential diagnosis, etiological therapy. Personal and public prevention with the dispensation of the most common parasitic diseases (local and tropical) in humans. The purpose of this textbook is to give medical students the most important theoretical and practical skills necessary for the early diagnosis of parasitic diseases and conducting an effective fight against parasitoses (local and tropical). The same will be able to be used by the doctors specializing in the SDO line, by the students studying in the medical colleges from the "medical laboratory assistant" profiles. And "inspector of public health" and in the Ministry of Health in the specialty "Health care" (for nurses and midwives). It will also serve as a quick reference for parasitologists and general practitioners working as general practitioners (GPs). The textbook-guide is adapted to the curricula for medical students and college students, therefore the authors do not claim to have a full volume of information on the described parasitic diseases. The author's team will gratefully accept all identified shortcomings, notes, opinions and recommendations in the work.
