Diseases of the oral mucosa

The independent ones include stomatitis as a result of locally acting factors of infection:
- injuries (sharp edges of prostheses, untreated caries, broken teeth)
-physical (burns from hot food, electrogalvanism)
-chemical (acids, formalin, caustic soda)
-infectious (caused by fungi – candida, actinomycetes)
-viral (herpes simplex, herpes zoster, aphthous stomatitis)
Secondary (symptomatic) stomatitis accompanying various general diseases include:
-skin diseases (lichen planus)
- gastrointestinal diseases (gastritis, ulcer)
- blood diseases (anemia, leukosis)
- hypovitaminoses (insufficiency of vitamins - A, B, C, PP)
infectious diseases (influenza, infectious mononucleosis), etc.
The lowering of the body's defenses and the virulence of microorganisms in the oral cavity are important for the occurrence of mucosal diseases. No matter how diverse the causes causing stomatitis are, the main changes they cause on the oral mucosa are similar to each other and therefore difficult to distinguish.
Stomatitis is characterized by the signs of inflammatory diseases - redness, swelling, warmth, pain and disturbances of the function of the relevant organ. In the oral cavity, loss of taste, difficulty chewing, speech disturbances, etc. are most often observed. The disease can cover a certain area or the entire oral mucosa.
