Of grief and mourning
Grief is our strong emotional response to the pain of loss. It is a reflection of the fact that a relationship has been broken. And most importantly, grief is an emotional, spiritual, and physical journey toward healing.
In his first book, About death and dying, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross defines the five stages of dying—denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. In the years since the book was published, it has become clear that these are stages that we go through not only when we face death, but also when we experience various difficult moments and catastrophic life trials. Many of our problems are due to suppressed and untreated grief. When we don't work through our grief, we miss the opportunity to heal our soul, psyche, and heart. Grief transforms our broken, wounded soul that no longer wants to get up in the morning because it sees no point in living anymore.
With sage advice and guidance, Elizabeth Kübler-Ross and her co-author David Kessler help bereaved people return to normal life and find the courage to move on. Blending practical wisdom with spiritual insights, On Grief and Grieving sheds light on topics as diverse as sadness, obsessions, dreams, coping with loneliness, isolation, children, and even sex, expertly guiding us on the path to healing.
