Infectious Diseases for Physicians
Infectious diseases are a wide-ranging and rapidly changing discipline. Human mobility, animal and food trade, global warming, migration, unpredictable natural disasters and political conflicts are changing the face of old infectious diseases and are a prerequisite for the emergence of new ones.
The author team of the textbook has made efforts and efforts to present classic infectious diseases in an accessible, informative and modern way, as well as a number of "hot" topics - infections in immunocompromised, pregnant and newborns, adults, related to biofilms, as well as after animal bites, sepsis , sexually transmitted infections. The current 2013 MERS coronaviruses and the real threat of polio in Europe due to the influx of refugees from Syria have also found a place.
Traditionally, the textbook is composed of a general part (infectology propaedeutics) and a special one with individual diseases. Emphasis is placed on the clinical diagnosis, the etiological confirmation and the treatment. This determines its practical orientation. The material is presented in a concise, easy-to-read format, and the most important information is summarized in tables and figures. Today, Europe's borders are open to young doctors. That is why we have also presented the behavior for some problems, different from that in our long-reforming health care. It is a standard in Europe and a number of economically developed countries. Finally is a glossary of some of the more common terms.
New moments in the student are:
- clinical tasks - after each section, comment on the answers;
-tropical infections (bacterial and viral) – this chapter is included for the first time in an infectious disease textbook to help students prepare for the exam. After it, a self-assessment test is presented;
– for those who want to know more – an intriguing section where the reader will find additional up-to-date and important information, e.g. for cases of cure from HIV infection.
We believe that the textbook will be useful not only for medical students, but also for specialized doctors. As well as for anyone who wants to do a quick reference on an infectious disease issue.
